Meadows are a real asset to wildlife in the garden and lovely to look at. In this garden our clients had previously been disappointed by their efforts to sow a meadow, because their soil is a nutritious clay. Juliet suggested that a pond would be great for wildlife and that, in the digging of the pond, we could use the excavated subsoil to sow a meadow. The result was a very pretty corner of the garden buzzing with dragonflies, bees and butterflies and a restful retreat for the garden owners. Meadows are a great asset to a garden, but they are not a low maintenance option, certainly not for the first decade, anyway!
